theMARAJ was formed in early 2015 by ILYA, JOSH, and JUAN, joined later by AXEL to form the collective it is today. The group has since grown to a roster of six artists, photographers, and videographers located throughout the Twin Cities.

Juan is the founder, leader, and visionary of theMARAJ. He began his musical education studying classical music and is an accomplished violist and pianist. Juan has been studying music for 10 years and has spent the latter half recording and producing. He is an avid singer and songwriter and brings his expertise to the group as both a recording artist and producer. Juan cites Tame Impala, Travis Scott, and Kanye West, as the artists who first inspired him to explore his artistry. He aims to build a movement off of theMARAJ's appeal, music, and energy, while tirelessly driving the brand forward.
Axel grew up surrounded by music of all genres. His grandfather was a professional pianist whom he references as one of his major musical influences. One of Axel's greatest strengths is his versatility. He displays mastery across genres, such as in his debut album, Empire, and more recently, BLACKOUT. He comes from a loving upbringing with family and friends, and channels all his energy into his music. R&B is Axel's preferred genre due to his ingenuity for creating melodies. He is entirely self-taught and got his start in the music industry recording himself and a handful of old acquaintances. Axel has had his influence felt across many local artist’s music. In his early years, he observed how easily others would use him for his talents; he says, "This game is selfish, only you can have your own back."
Ilya initially took on the role of managing the networking and business side of the group as a co-founder of theMARAJ. He has stepped in as a photographer and videographer throughout the years and is currently at the head of many of the group's external relations. He can often be found in the studio working with the group or in the city on promotional business.
Josh was born and raised in Indio, California. He draws inspiration from the Latino community of Southern California with a Mexican family lineage. Josh has made music a staple of his life since grade school, joining the school band and learning the alto saxophone. He devoted endless hours of his early years studying and practicing music. Josh went through the unexpected and moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota with his family at the start of high school. In Minnesota, Josh met Juan, Ilya, and Axel, who all motivated him to study music production and become a producer for theMARAJ. He brings an impressive array of beat-making skills to the team and continues to work on his production while expanding his musical range.
Geremiahhh was born and raised in Minnesota, with music being a prevalent factor in his life throughout his younger years. He began producing in his early teens, though he didn't begin recording until the end of his high school career. Geremiahhh draws inspiration from 70's and 80's funk, early 2000's R&B, and notes Drake, Kendrick Lamar, and Bryson Tiller as his most recent musical influences. He can almost always be seen with a pair of headphones on producing a new track or writing for his next single. Music is one of his deepest passions, and he hopes to influence the world and change music for the better.
Wavy draws his artistic inspiration from ASAP ROCKY, Virgil Abloh, Travis Scott, and Kanye West. He describes his personal style as a mixture of Travis Scott and Kanye West in terms of fashion, music, and expression. He aims to continue to develop his musical style with his own ForgiveMeWavy sauce.
